While accompanying an arctic training mission, Cobra Commander noticed
that while the Snow Serpents performance was excellent, the small contingent
of BATS they were accompanied with seemed to slow the team down, and proved
to be more of a hindrance then help. He ordered Dr. Mindbender to
immediately begin work on BATS that were specially modified to operate
in harsh sub-zero temperatures.
An A-BAT is equipped with a power system similar to that of the regular
BAT, but is specially modified with an elaborate sensor system built into
its chest and leg plating that absorb solar energy into its main power
core
