I got this figure in trade a while back, and except for a pair of broken thumbs, he was in remarkably good shape. I have a rule with RAH originals from 82-84: if I've got enough parts of them to create a decent copy (with my own little touches) from, I go for it.

The toughest part with him was rebuilding the thumbs. In the end I ended up drilling and dremeling holes into each hand and inserting short lengths of paper clip, then applying Sculpey Flex (left hand) and Quikplastic (right hand) over that. The result is some pretty ugly thumbs--but ones that aren't going to snap off very easily.

Lacking anything remotely like the original rifle/backpack combo, I opted for the oversized Star Wars Clone Trooper rifle (which turned out to be an excellent fit) instead and skipped the pack; the Chap Mei helmet also turned out to be an ideal fit, though I'll swear that visor wasn't yellow when I started. Ah well...

So here he is: the original Flash, fixed, updated and happily on display in my collection.
