The vast open expanses of the northern Maine frontier did not appeal to the heart of young Jacques. He longed for warm weather that lasted more than 3 months of the year, for neighbors that were not related and for more excitement than offered by the small town of Saint Agatha. Jacques joined the Maine Army National Guard at age 18, a family tradition. Jacques boarded the plane to leave for Basic Training, leaving behind a crying mother and a proud father. 5 months later a disgruntled Jacques came back to the small town. He started to mix it up with the local law enforcement and became known as a nuisance. 6 months after he returned from training he left home again. He stole his father's truck and began to drive south. Maine State Troopers chased him out of the state. Jacques downward spiral grew as he continued south on I-95 into the Florida Everglades.
By the time he reached the swamps of Florida he was known as Gristle, tough as hell and hard to swallow.
