When I first started making EXCAL customs, the Excalibur theme was a heavy one, and I started a mystics division, headed up by a contemporary incarnation of Merlin. Whether he was a wizard or it was simply a code name was debatable.

Jump ahead a number of years, and I don't recall exactly what sparked it other than finding a use for this head, and thinking it looked cool on that body, but at some point it jumped right out at me as a modern day Gandalf.

Most people don't like the cigar (versus a pipe), and many have also suggested he would make for a good "War Doctor" from Doctor Who, in a pinch. Both are ideas I continue to contemplate.
