Design:

The next in my Plague series. The concept of a Crimson Guard member assigned to the Plague is absurd- especially as a heavy weapons specialist. The name is also stupid, as the character doesn't even have any obvious night vision capabilities. But I didn't create or name the character, Devil's Due did.

Colors & paint:

As with all of my Plague customs, I added some color to the otherwise charcoal color set. In this case, I added a lot of dark red because this is a Crimson Guard character. The uniform is a dusted with a muddy spray layer.

For the muddy spattering, I used light tan instead of the brown I'd used on the previous Plague characters. The lighter color provides better contrast against the dark grey of the uniform. The dust is applied much heavier than I've done on the other customs, but it works- even though it overpowers the uniform in some spots. As a practical matter, the dust should be on the gear (belts, boots, gloves) and not just the uniform. For purely artistic reasons, I like to put dust only on the uniform and leave the gear mysteriously clean. This seems to showcase the dust on the uniform better, even if it's unrealistic... and then I realized that the boots just couldn't be clean. So I dry brushed them so the dust on the uniform matched the dried mud texture on the boots. That improved the look and I expanded the dry brushing onto the weapon and the backpack.
