This is the version of the Iron Man armor which Stark wore into combat while still with SHIELD, and which he proudly wears now with EXCAL. It has many of the capabilities of the armor as seen in the comic, but hasn't quite advanced to that level as of yet. Stark's armory presently shows several shinier versions which are not yet fully operational, but which seem to be forthcoming.

Of note is the scar above Stark's right eye, as it has been rumored it was received at the hands, or in this case shield, of Steve Rogers. Apparently there is at least one thing capable of penetrating this armor... And Stark's departure from SHIELD is more understandable as a result.
