Nalia Arnise grew up on a horse farm in Virginia; tall, athletic and driven, she took to horseback riding and equestrian sports almost from the time she was old enough to sit in the saddle. At the age of twelve she learned crossbow archery and soon combined it with her love of horseback riding, become an expert at mounted archery. In her mid-teens she began learning wilderness survival from an uncle, who was also a retired Army Ranger. These skills would come in handy in 2003 when Nalia, then 22 and about to graduate from college after having studied forestry, invaded.
