I didn't hate the new Major Bludd but I wasn't crazy by what Hasbro released. I could understand people's annoyance when Hasbro said they were delaying him to get him "just right" and then we get a figure that is basically a headswap that most customizers could do.

So with that being said. I didn't hate it, but I felt the character needed a more faithful or better yet thoughtful figure then what we got.

I thought about it for awhile, since we saw pictures of the figure, and kept trying to think what would look the best for me. I watched the cartoons and took some freeze frame captures and decided that I liked his look in the first mini-series the best (where he only had a half piece of armor-as opposed to the piece that covered his entire chest and stomach area.

I was going to use a Hiss Driver upper but ultimately decided I really wanted to go with my own approach. So this is what I got.

I liked the idea of using Duke's upper legs since that is what the original Major Bludd figure used back in the 80's. I also liked the idea of using the Cobra trooper's torso since in the cartoon Major Bludd has a blue shirt on underneath his uniform which led me to believe he wore parts of the Cobra uniform, even though he was a mercenary, since he led the troops on the field and needed to curry their support and respect.

When sculpting the upper chest armor. I decided I wanted it to have a leather look. I found out that if I paint on "the green stuff" sculpting compound when it is still curing. You will get a cracked look that is pretty close to how leather looks. So I went with that approach here.

I liked the big holster on the side, although I usually don't, since Major Bludd in the cartoon had a pretty big holster to fit that massive rocket gun thing.

Lastly I didn't add articulation to his arm yet since I really wasn't in a cutting and drilling mood when I was making the figure, but it is something I will definitely do at some point.
