I really started to like the Sigma 6 figures because they got my son into GI Joe and reintroduced me to a childhood obsession. But I missed the old ARAH days and my favorite character, Shipwreck. I didn't like the Hasbro sculpt and decided to try my own. I spent weeks planning, collecting the parts, learning about customizing on different boards, and getting up the nerve to actually try it. This is my first and favorite custom. I managed to get the ARAH look I loved as a kid, taking cues from both the 1985 figure and the Sunbow cartoon, and keep some of the Sigma details. The tattoo and the insignia are hand-painted and were taken wholly from the cartoon, though the tattoo is on the wrong arm due to the gauntlet on his left. Major modifications to the figure include sculpting a shirt collar, facial hair, and re-sculpting the eyebrows for more character. The Dixie-cup hat stumped me for a while because I wanted it to be removable, until I remembered that cool foamy modeling stuff my son played with a few times, Crayola Model Magic. He's missing the parrot, but Polly annoyed me, anyway.
