Voltar has always been loyal to the McCullen family and Destro in particular. Destro recognized the military genius that Voltar possessed early and gave him command of a legion of his Iron Grenadiers. Voltar has not disappointed Destro and he was later placed at the side of Alexander to serve as his top military adviser. When Cobra Commander III replaced Alexander with Darklon as the head of MARS on Springfield Island, Voltar returned to his post as field commander for the Iron Grenadiers to stay out of Cobra Commander III's sight. He has prepared his troops for the inevitable showdown with Cobra when they attempt their escape.
