Not always being able to rely on or trust Destro, Cobra Commander saw the need for his own weapons developer.

His real name unknown to anyone save Cobra Commander, Weaponsmith is rumored to have worked for many of the major weapons manufacturers. When Cobra headhunters found out that M.A.R.S. was courting Weaponsmith, they came in and presented a sweeter deal .

This custom was based on a character in GI Joe European Missions #9. He was killed in that issue as well. In my world, though he survived.
