Wade Wilson's early life is mostly unknown. What is known is that he briefly served in the Canadian military before being drummed out for being disruptive and disobedient. During this time, it is assumed he started traveling, learning the art of sword-fighting. After some years, he began his career as a mercenary, accepting assassination jobs only against those whom he felt deserved death. Little is known of Wilson's subsequent mercenary activities up until he was hired by Cobra. While working for them, he changed his mind and told them that he refused to finish the job, so they could take the money and hire a new merc for the job. They disagreed strongly with his reneging on their deal and captured him, choosing to test some of Mindbender's new techniques on him. Wanting to replicate the process by which their previous test-subject, Logan, had received his healing abilities, Wade was to be their new guinea pig for this procedure before they used the candidate they picked for their new assassin. The procedure worked, but there was slight flaw. Unbeknownst to him, Wade had developed cancer and the process caused a spread of the cells, disfiguring him permanently and leaving his skin to be scarred horribly. The believed him a failure and simply tossed his body with other such failures, but he awoke shortly afterward with one thought in mind: destroy Cobra. Now he serves the G.I. Joe team with those same skills he developed over a lifetime. And, of course, with his new healing abilities to back him up. He and Logan have both grown close during their service together in the G.I. Joe team, something that most believe keeps the pair from losing touch as easily, making things safer for other members. It also helps to have a training partner just as indestructible as yourself.
