I really wanted a Philip Rey after he was introduced in the comics. I didn't like how the Phoenix Guard played out in the comic series so I rewrote the team to make them fit in my Joe-verse. I'm not sure of his true origin yet and I'll see how it plays out as I introduce other characters.


No one knows where General Rey came from before he became field commander for The Phoenix Guard. Duke has attempted to research his past and came up empty with prior service records. One thing that can't be argued is Rey's prowess on the battlefield as anyone who has witnessed The Phoenix Guard in action. And though Rey is in total command on the battlefield, he answers directly to Karma.
