Doctor Venom was, and remains, one of the best Joe comic originated characters. Even though he died before the comic was even two years old, he showed that Hama had no problem killing characters off if it fit the story and his legacy still impacts the current comics. So I was very excited to finally see him get a figure in the Club's Adventure Team offerings. Unfortunately, like a lot of that set, he missed the mark by a fair amount. The modified Liu Kang head was servicable, but the painted tie was just terrible. I started out merely intending to replace that with something with some depth, but eventually the head bothered me enough that that had to change too. I went with the old standby for Venom, Peter Cushing. I did hollow the cheekbones, give him more of a hook nose, and add the spitcurl to bring it that much closer to Mike Vosburg's depiction of Venom. All that work for a character that's been dead for more than 30 years.
