One word can be used to describe Hatchet: insane. Little is known about him. Did he come from a dysfunctional family? Was he abandoned as a child? Was he beaten or tortured? Criminal Psychologists have come up with all of these theories and more to explain Hatchet's homicidal tendencies. One thing is sure, he loves to kill. He relishes the feeling of power over his victims. He doesn't discriminate: men, women, young, old, black, white, military or civilian, as long as he's drenched in his victim's blood, he's happy.

As a mercenary, he offers his talents to the highest bidder. Cobra Commander has used Hatchet's services on occasion. Although the Commander usually prefers Storm Shadow's discreet approach to assassination, on occasion, a "louder" message needs to be sent to Cobra's rivals. In these instances, Hatchet's lust for gore usually does the trick.
