Design:

Sightline was released by Hasbro in one of its TRU exclusive sets. The character is Hasbro's tribute to the late Gary Head, a Joe collector known for his vast knowledge as well as his signature goggles. The goggles, arguably the most important part of the figure, are retained on the Mutt helmet. I like the Mutt goggles better than the Hasbro version's because they are two separate lenses and not one wide lens. This figure is based on the Hasbro's Sightline, without its outer flak vest.

I generally dislike Joes having entirely covered heads. (Except for Snake-Eyes, of course.) Even if the just eyes are visible I can accept it- but something about a completely hidden face that doesn't artistically register with me as being a "good guy". Instead of mimicking the entirely faceless look of the Hasbro figure, I used the Ric Ollie head to give Sightline a face. Of the figures I could find that would work with the NS proportions, the Ric Ollie head worked the best with the overall design. Please note that it's not intended to look like Gary Head.

The Swamp Rat chest/back also keeps the plated armor look of the Hasbro figure and the Destro lower legs keep the look of the pant legs. Instead of a laptop, the Breaker backpack is used for a bit of techno-infusion.

The shawl is an element different from the TRU figure. I added it to disguise how wonky the upper body proportions of the NS parts are.

Colors & Paint:

The Hasbro Sightline could have been released as Firefly and no one would have said much due to its color scheme. The handful of elements that separate Sightline from Firefly are Sightline's helmet, splashes of red on the arms, and the red goggles. I kept grey for the base color of the uniform. I added ice blue as one of the camouflage colors and repeated it on the shawl to "un-Firefly" Sightline. The camouflage pattern was done with a sponge, which is an attempt to mimic digital patterning. Not as good as the salt technique some customizers use, but fairly effective. After adding the pattern, the arm and leg pockets weren't visible at all, so I painted the edges.

Sculpting & Modifying:

The hair was removed from the head to fit into the helmet, which was glued to the head. The kneepads and pouch straps are sculpted. The computer on the leg and the lower leg pouches are push molds.

Dedication:

Though I never had a chance to meet him, this figure is dedicated to the memory of Gary Head.

Thanks for looking.
