Character/Design:

Take the Joe characters of Duke and Psych-Out, then roll them into one character. Take that character and make it a Cobra character. That's essentially what Hasbro did when it created Tombstone. This custom uses mostly NS parts to create a bulky feel. The signature look of the Hasbro figure is really the white shoulder armor, which is mimicked here by the Destro arms. The Tele-Viper backpack has a somewhat similar look/feel to Psych-Out's gear, so I included it. Maybe he's using some hi-tech devices for his psychological warfare.

Colors & Painting:

Hasbro's color set wasn't bad, but they missed the obvious. The character is named Tombstone, making grey was in order. I went with charcoal grey for the uniform, with black and dark blue for the gear, plus white shoulder pads.

Instead of gloves, painting the hands as flesh is a small touch that helps identify him as a "named" character.

I painted the flesh tone as a dull grey-brown, and then added a warm brown wash over it to bring it to life. The area around the scar was left more grey-brown to help look like dead tissue surrounding the x-shaped scar. The scar is a bit different in shape than Hasbro's version, which is too precise and symmetrical.

Sculpting & Modifying:

The head is cast (from starwarsgeek). The neck is also cast. The gap between the head and neck was filled and epoxied smooth.

The Dart chest is very character specific and had to be disguised to work for another figure. I covered the eagle medallion with epoxy and then put a texture into the epoxy, plus a dividing line down the center of the texture. The Hasbro Blackout has angled rectangular pouches (for magazines?). There wasn't enough space to mimic that on the Dart chest, so I added three vertical pouches to the space between the edges of the open flak vest. The grenades were cut from the Obi-Wan belt and glued to the chest.

Thanks for looking.
