New sculpt homage to the original figure.

The original Techno Viper was a figure with a very useful specialty but an awkward design. I always felt his card art was a better, more menacing representation of the concept than the actual figure. The best thing about the vintage figure was his backpack and tools.

This custom is an attempt to recreate the vintage design using new sculpt parts I had on hand. As a rule I try to use factory molded/painted parts on joints to retain full articulation without paint wear. This figure gave me an opportunity to use the otherwise lackluster purple parts from the VvV purple Viper. They have the added benefit of giving the figure a bulkier, more aggressive look than the vintage design, with the added flair of the black strapping and silver studs. In general, I used a more muted scheme of purple, gunmetal, and black to give this new Techno Viper a harder, less cartoony edge.

The figure's gear comes from an assortment of Chap Mei construction tools and the rifle-like device from a Funskool airtight figure. The Chap Mei tools are a bit oversized, but look interesting enough when attached to the backpack. The modified Airtight device works very well as some kind of futuristic tool.
