If the Vipers are the backbone of Cobra's forces, then Commando Vipers are the stepping stones to more specialized training for anyone with ambitions of becoming a Alley Viper or Night Viper. They receive rudimentary training in urban and night operations.

Commando Vipers are proficient in most forms of NATO and Warsaw Pact small arms, and have training in the use of edged weapons.
