Croc Master was a follower of Serpentor and for this reason Cobra Commander locked him inside of the freighter he buried on Cobra Island. But Croc Master escaped the freighter as well as the others. He made his way to the Florida everglades where he found the Dreadnoks hideout. The Dreadnoks provided him with a place to stay but Croc Master did not feel welcome with them, especially after he discovered it was Zartan that shot the fatal arrow into Serpentor. Knowing he needed to be back on Cobra Island to strike back at Cobra Commander and Zartan he disappeared from the Dreadnok compound as quickly as he had appeared.

After surviving in the everglades for a year while getting his mind and body prepared for his personal war, he confiscated a boat and headed back to Cobra Island, but this time he took some of Florida's fine crocodiles with him. A year after his return to Cobra Island the marshlands on the western coast were populated by the crocodiles and their descendants that Croc Master planted there. He lives among them terrorizing Cobra Island and killing any Cobra soldiers he can touch.

Croc Master has become more and more animalistic in the two years since he first formulated his plan. He has become so feral that he could never reenter any kind of society that required human contact. As far as everyone on Cobra Island is concerned he is a rabid animal that must be destroyed at all costs.

Cobra Commander even has gone so far to deny the fact that the original Croc Master is alive and terrorizing his country that he hired a new member to work for Cobra and gave him the name Croc Master. He made public appearances with the new Croc Master and has tried to persuade everyone that he is on Cobra's side and whatever is in the swamps is a wild beast that needs to be hunted and killed.

But that hasn't done much to calm the nerves of the night shift guard force as they constantly see their numbers dwindle every time one of them gets too close to the darkness.
