The SS, or Schutzstaffel, which is German for protective squadron, was originally designed as a protective guard for Hitler, a 'shield squadron', that consisted of nearly a million men, who were used on the frontlines as well as acting as a political police.

Towards the end of the war, many of the SS was shuttled out of Germany to Africa with the aid of a group called ODESSA, it is was through ODESSA in the deserts of Africa that the union of Cobra and the Nazi SS took place.
