RECONNAISSANCE MARINE
Code name: OTTER

File Name: Daly, Smedly J.
Primary MOS: Reconnaissance [0326]
Secondary MOS: Logistics Vehicle System Operator [3533]
Place of Birth: Moab, Utah
Grade: E-5 (sergeant)

Otter comes from a military family background, his father, grandfather and great-grandfather all having served in the Marines. He'd always been one of those guys never to back down from a challenge. He originally joined the Corps as a truck driver, but was told by his MTO* he'd never pass the Recon indoctrination. Two days later he got his new orders to join 1st Recon Battalion. He's comfortable working in the dark and by himself. His night vision works so well, he prefers to go without the NVGs** the other Joes use in the dark. He only wears his amber shooting glasses to cut down on the glare and to protect his eyes. Most people think he's a slacker and a goof ball as he doesn't take himself too seriously, but once they see him in action, they see he's damn good at his job.

"We can send Otter in by himself and he'll find the target and can clearly communicate back to us what we're up against. He can get a bit impatient waiting for the rest of team though. One time he charged in and took out several Cobras armed only with his M-4/Masterkey. When he ran out of ammo, he fixed his bayonet and the Marine training took over."

This is my first custom and I think he turned out pretty decent. His M-4/Masterkey is a bit of a custom as well. The Masterkey part is the 12ga shot gun mounted under the barrel, usually a modified Remington 870. I gut the carry handle from the top and mounted the AN/PVS-4 night vision scope in its place. I trimmed up the flash hider so the sound suppressor would fit.
I looked for a pair of legs that had a thigh mounted holster. Using a drill, I removed the molded pistol and began to drill out the holster, into the leg. The pistol fits in there decently, but not quite as nicely as the molded holsters seen on the newer figures.

I posed him next to his vehicle, the Night Stalker.

Bonus points for anyone who knows the inspiration for his file name.
