Abandoning his Spectrum uniform as being too conspicuous after his return to Earth, Captain Black is more usually seen in civilian clothes, although he does sometimes still use his Spectrum issue equipment. The Mysterons often use him as an assassin, either to kill or destroy a specific target that they have threatened, or to set up another assassin to carry out the threat.

He will kill in cold blood, although he has been known to make mistakes, and occasionally show compassion. This latter has been thought to be a momentary weakening of the control exerted on him by his Mysteron masters.
