Staff: 25A Serpentor
Hair: sculpted

Design:

The continuity of the old cartoon never held as much appeal for me as the Marvel comic. I have found it a good source for making customs over the last year or so, though. Cobra La is such a silly idea, at least in the GI Joe universe. However, a cool character is a cool character and Pythona might be the most memorable thing from the movie.

As with my Alexander McCullen custom, this one started because I had an unwanted MU figure after making an Iron Man purchase. In this case, the Spider-Woman figure than came with Iron Man needed to be put to good use.

The long cape in the movie is great, but I decided to just go with what I had on hand. The Mara Jade scarf is a good enough substitute for a floor length cape.

My only regret with the finished product is that I didn't use different feet with higher heels.

Colors & paint:

The inspiration for this figure is the cartoon drawing, but to make it work as a "real thing" I went with a more complex paint scheme. The main body is a mix of red/light blue, which appears as a lavender unless right next to the eye. For the circles, several rings of purple are buffered by a dissipating white pattern.

The ROC Cover Girl head is often disliked by collectors and customizers. It's actually a decent head, but needs to be enhanced by painting the lips red and adding a bit of color around the eyes, as makeup would do to a real face. They eyes are yellow with dark green slits in the center.

Instead of giving Pythona jet black hair, I went with a very dark brown. This makes it clear that the scarf and the hair are not the same.

Sculpting:

After making ponytails for Firewall and Zanya customs, I knew that hot glue over wire would be the way to go for Pythona's hair.

The hair keeps is sculpted of thin copper wire wound very tightly at the top and expanding at the bottom. I made it wider at the bottom to disguise and cover the lumpiness of the head.

The jawline is tapered slightly as to not be so square-shaped.

Thanks for looking.
