Design:

The "active denial system" being developed for the armed forces was featured on Future Weapons a while back. The idea for an ADS operator stewed in my head for a while. While not mentioned on the show, I decided that the operator would need some semi-armored components to his uniform that could absorb the waves from the system should he need to be exposed to them. The HISS Driver legs, Cobra Commander arms, and Psyche-Out head all had the right feel. The Alley Viper chest and Gung Ho waist, though lacking any kind of external plate armor, framed all the pieces together nicely. A friend purchased a "Fearless Force" set for me as a joke because one of the characters had a hideous head, but the spotlight (or laser or whatever it's supposed to be) caught my eye. It was perfect for the active denial system.

Colors & Paint:

This was a very fun figure to paint. I got to use very identifiable parts and effectively disguise them. My last few camouflaged figures were done using a method where I draw in the areas and then hand paint them. For this one, I went with the more simplistic method of using masking tape to go for a large block pattern. As most of the parts were original "Cobra" looking, I could have gone in any direction, choosing a tan/burgundy for the uniform and green for the gear.

To really tie the ADS and the figure together, they are painted in the same color set.

The Psyche-Out head originally was a white guy with a one-tone helmet system. I repainted it as a black guy and with the camo patterned helmet- and made it obvious that the more "hi tech" portion (the half-helmet) is a shell that sits on top of the entire helmet. The Alley Viper chest has always been a gem and it was interesting to repaint it in a "good guy" color scheme. The HISS Driver legs have always been solid black from the top of the thighs, but I opted to paint them as if only the fronts were armored and the back portions of the leg were uniform material. I also painted the knee pads differently than the rest to break up the look even more.

Modifying & Sculpting:

None on this figure.

Thanks for looking.
