The original Deep-Six is probably the lamest figure in the entire line. The idea of a military diver is cool, the character was interesting, and the color scheme was nice, but the terrible articulation on the figure made him more useful as a paperweight than a Joe. So, when I finally got around to making a Deep-Six custom for my set of 83-84 remakes, I wanted to see if I could salvage poor old Deep-Six's dignity and give him the range of motion that he deserved.

I've always liked the movie The Abyss, and I thought the idea of the fluid breathing system that they used for deep dives was pretty cool. A few years ago, I read an article about fluid breathing technology, which apparently has been in development since the 1960's, and I was excited to find out that it was a real thing. Since then, I had been trying to find a way to use it for a custom Joe, and Deep-Six seemed like the perfect guy for the job. So, I used the pink visor from the Star Brigade Roadblock to simulate the oxygenated fluid, found some parts that resembled the 84 Deep-Six's dive suit, and came up with this figure.

There's a modest little dio featuring him (with a cameo appearance by my custom Torpedo) at the bottom of the page.
