1983 Airborne

Airborne has always been one of my favorite characters.

While it's very underwhelming in terms of bulk compared to current figures, it was nicely sculpted back in the early 80's.

The powder blue vest always seemed a bit off. I had an Airborne with a broken left hand. I decided to repair the hand and then re-attach it at a swiveled position to hold the fore grip of a rifle. While I was at it, I decided to repaint the entire figure and get rid of the blue vest, too.

There were lots of details that the original paint applications ignored. The thigh holster and goggles were left unpainted. This didn't accentuate the time and effort that someone had put into sculpting them.

On the original figure, the waist harness and web gear were different colors. I made them the same tan color to make it look as if they were part of the same system.

I kept powder blue around and used it for the "clear" part of the visor. I couldn't think of a good way to make it look clear, so the blue seemed like a good choice, as it would be an "environmental" color often reflected from the sky onto glass/plastic.
