Vortex was one of The Iron Grenadier Annihilators. When he was shot down he was left for dead. Rescued by OverKill, he was fitted with the same Centurion Armor system as Starscream and given a redesigned Annihilator heli-pack. After completion, he contacted Destro and offered his services. Destro laughed him off telling him that if he had been a better pilot he wouldn't have needed the cybernetics. Returning to OverKill, he is now a deadly sharpshooter that can come in at any angle.
