Bio: Serpentor was genetically engineered from the DNA of history's greatest warriors, Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Philip of Macedonia, Hannibal, Attila the Hun, Julius Caesar, Vlad the Impaler, Ivan the Terrible, Napolean Bonaparte and Thomas Arishikage, the ninja Storm Shadow. For several years Serpentor was Cobra's leader and greatest general until felled by Zartan's arrow during the First Cobra Civil War.

Serpentor's body was thought to have been in the buried freighter when it was destroyed, but evidence was found in 2001 that there was a presence on Cobra Island not that of Cobra. Later, G.I. Joe discovered that that presence was an organization of former Vipers and Crimson Guards calling themselves the Coil and led by the once-thought dead Serpentor.

The aim of the Coil was similar to that of G.I. Joe, to protect their country, in their case Cobra Island, from those seeking to conquer and rule it by force, namely Cobra itself. With a shared goal in the defeat of Cobra, an alliance formed between G.I. Joe and the Coil...
