Design:

Red Tako is a character that I know very little about, and the little I do know is thanks to Jamar Miller. Red Tako is a diver/SEAL equivalent for the Red Shadows.

The illustrations I've seen show the character dressed in the Torpedo uniform, but with a red/black color scheme instead of a black/grey one.

As the Torpedo body has already been overused by Hasbro, I tried to stay far away from it. The Gung Ho (in this case, Torch) torso has a bare chest, but it horribly sculpted- for a bare chest at least. With its deep cut lines, which are too rigid to look natural, it seemed like perhaps it would work better as a semi-armored wetsuit.

The half wetsuit/half trousers look of the ROC Shipwreck inspired me to take that look at try it on another aquatic figure.

Colors/Painting:

The real color scheme looks nice, but it's identical to the Cobra Diver figure (see comparison pics), so I opted to take some liberties. Instead of a two-tone wetsuit, I went with a straight blood red.

So many Red Shadow characters are decked out in all red that I wanted to mix in a few different colors. The brown trousers are different enough from the rest of the figure that they don't appear to be the same material or fabric. The light brown-grey of the straps is based on the color used in artwork of the character that I've seen.

For a bit of fun, lime green dots the face of the diver's watch.

Sculpting/Modifying:

I removed the hair from the Duke head and then sculpted on edges for the wetsuit's mask.

The straps on the chest are made from sculpting material and masking tape. The lower strap on the chest is a bit too wide, but still workable.

Thanks for looking.
