Real Name: Fox, Emily
Birthplace: Newport News, VA
Primary Military Specialty: Communications Specialist
Secondary Military Specialty: Infantry
Grade: E-5

It was apparent, some would say, that Emily Fox was meant to be a soldier from the time she was a little girl. Ever the tomboy, her Barbies spent more time taking the beach than tanning on it; growing up she preferred to play war with her brothers rather than house, and instead of watching cartoons, she watched war movies. Small wonder that as soon as she graduated high school she enlisted in the Army, where she pursued training initially in infantry, then later in communications, as well as undertaking the rigors of Airborne and Ranger schools as well.

War Fox is easy to get along with, the type of person who puts you at ease after just five minutes around her; she considers herself the follower type rather than a leader (an attitude that has made her advancement somewhat difficult) but is also an independent thinker, and watches out as much for her squadmates as she does herself. Cool under fire, she presents a fun, friendly attitude in garrison and is always happy to help others. It also comes as a bit of a surprise to her comrades to learn she has grown, as an adult, to embrace her feminine side as well; seeing her in makeup and a dress has thrown more than one for a loop, used to as there are to seeing her in camouflage paint and fatigues! Fortunately most get past that, and when the fight is on, she tucks that side away and becomes War Fox once more, eager to serve and to fight.

Vanguard Bio: War Fox was tapped for the Vanguard unit from among a dozen Greenshirt candidates to replace Maj. Falcon following his death during the "Grey Island" incident. Her easygoing, adaptable nature has allowed her to fit in well, and she's proven rapidly adaptable to any situation, despite often going up against a decidedly otherworld enemy. Her communications training is nearly on par with that of the late Falcon, and there's no denying she's a lot more fun to have around than the late, somewhat unfunny major was (though this is by no means a slam against his memory, they insist.)

NOTE FOR RECORD: It should be noted that despite the similarity of names, Emily Fox is no relation to Vanguard's Lt. (j.g.) Erin Fox.

Design Notes: Originally, I planned for War Fox to be a "hot chick" type mercenary, but kind of got bored with that idea really fast and opted to make her a good deal more plain, someone I imagined people would not only feel at ease around, but would tend to accept more readily in the ranks. I'd picked up a 25A Tiger Force Duke for another custom idea and when that didn't work out, I swapped the arms and legs over to the Bombstrike torso/waist, and LOVED the look; however trying to match the colors of the legs got too daunting, so I opted to just paint them. The torso was already painted black so I kept that, but left the arms untouched, and added green to the neck to make it look as if the neck/sleeves were part of a uniform blouse under a light body armor vest. The head itself proved the most interesting, as I spent a couple of days just trying to tweak the hair to make it somewhat feminine, but not too much so (the hairstyle is actually based on one worn by a female recruit I met back in my own brief stint in 1986).

The trickiest part here was the backpack; I fell in love with it, but the back peg was huge (designed for BBI's Elite Force figures sold at Target a few years ago) so I trimmed it off and simply adhered it using hot glue. I'm pleased with the overall results. :-)
