Airborne was always one of my favorite Joes. Between my brother and I, Airborne was my character. On his file card it mentions that he studied law. Many law students come from law enforcement. And many police departments issue blue exterior body armor. That is my slant on where the blue came from.

I tried to keep to the original design where ever possible. You may notice that the four articles on his body armor are green in color and are in the same basic shape as Airborne V.1 1983. One change I made was to his rank placement. For accuracy reasons, I wanted it on the side of his sleeve instead of the front of it.

I was originally going to create a new backpack from scratch, however, when I came across the BBI pack, it was too perfect to pass up. I simply repainted it.

As far as his weapons go, I opted for a modern standard issue carbine for him, however, I used the bayonet from his original rifle.

I have an old roll of black masking tape. It is perfect for making various straps and the like. A small piece was used to make the holster more authentic.

Finally, I tried something more labor-intensive for the painting. I masked off each different color so I could efficiently dry brush them.

My one regret was not adding fabric to Airborne's helmet. Instead I went with a simple olive drab.
