Not much is known about the mercenary called Bane. He was born in one of the worst prisons in the world and came to rule it. After escaping from the prison, which no one before him had done, he made contact with Doctor Venom who helped him develop a super steroid that is stored in his belt and delivered into his system by the red button at the front of it. He waged a war against an American vigilante which left him broken. Cobra Commander sought him out and gave him new purpose.
