Adventure Team Mission Debriefing

Casefile: "The Iron Throne Of Death!"

Joh Kolton Reporting

According to the myths and legends of the planet Uthurek, upon the death of King Malagar, his twin sons had a violent falling out over who would rule Uthurek. King Malagar had hoped his sons would govern together in peace and harmony, but neither Necros and Aeriz could agree with their late father's wishes. Each was jealous and felt that the other was unfit to rule. Their argument became violent with each brother wounding and scarring the other's face. The two would-be kings retreated to their private fortresses and gathered their armies, preparing for war.

Necros fashioned a skull faced helmet to hide his disfigurement and had his throne refashioned with cold iron to resemble a terrifying pile of skulls becoming his "Throne Of Death". He declared himself to be the servant of Thanatos- Uthurek's God Of Death and his followers became his dreaded Reapers.

Aeriz fashioned a horned and beaked helmet to hide his own scars and had his throne adorned with countless cold iron armaments, becoming his imposing "Throne Of War". Aeriz, who had always worshipped Kratoz- Uthurek's God Of War, organized his followers into his unstoppable Titans.

Necros' and Aeriz's bloody war tore apart the civilization of Uthurek and ultimately doomed their entire population. Uthurek has been a dead and desolate world for over four thousand standard years.

I recently led a short exploratory mission to the dead world of Uthurek with my youngest Adventure Team member Ben Tennyson. The focus of this trip was to see if any artifacts from the ancient civilization of Uthurek still survived. We focused this first search on the location of Necros' former fortress. The mountain fortress was demolished, it's stone walls smashed and was little more than a massive pile of rubble.

I scanned the rubble and detected a solid mass somewhere beneath one of the closer piles of stones. Ben transformed into his Four Arms persona and began moving the massive stones. As he dug, he came across the remains of weapons and armor, all smashed into barely recognizable pieces. Those that could be identified bore the skull motif of King Necros' forces. After neartly an hour of digging, Ben had cleard several tons of debris and before us sat Necros' miraculously still intact throne.

The Iron Throne Of Death was not only intact, it appeared as if it had incurred no damage whatsoever despite being entombed under tons of rubble. The cold iron still shone with a dull gleam. The throne's blood red seat cushion, while dusty with what I assumed to be a mixture of pulverized rock and the powdered remains of Necros' own bones, was untorn and still appeared to have the imprint of it's King having just recently sat apon it.

Apon seeing the skull adorned throne, Ben just sighed and asked me "Seriously, what is it with the Adventure Team and ancient and mysterious skulls?". I wanted to explain to Ben that the skull is one of the universal symbols used by virtually all of the civilizations throughout this Galaxy's history, but I knew he would just roll his eyes and make one of his trademarked comments that most likely referenced some pop culture trivia from his homeworld that I wouldn't understand anyway so I just shrugged.

As we prepared to move the throne back to our ship, I was surprised to discover that despite being composed of cold iron, it was slightly warm to the touch...almost like the body of a living thing. Apon removing the throne from it's resting place I could have sworn I heard a faint sound, a whisper from the ether saying "At last.....". Being a modern sentient in a civilized Galaxy I do not believe in ghosts so I dismissed it as a result of the creepy and foreboding atmosphere of the ruined fortress and we continued moving the throne back to our ship.

When the time permits, I plan on returning to Uthurek for a second expedition to search for Aeriz's Throne Of War....

Project Notes:
This diorama piece started life as a great cast piece I got from Nova. I made some slight modifications to the cast, mostly smoothing the transitions from one shull to another, adding some filler skull parts to the bottom back of the throne and finally sculpting a seat cushion.
