Early in Cobra's history, Cobra Commander comissioned the construction of an underground missile launch facility. Built underground in an old mining town called Springfield, the Cobra Missile Command Center was completed in 1982.

Through their connections with M.A.R.S., Cobra was able to obtain an early prototype of a North Korean DF-21 Medium Range Ballistic Missile (MRBM). Due to the fact this missile was a prototype as well as to extend the range closer to that of an Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), the DF-21 was coupled to a much simpler booster rocket on top.

I was inspired to make this after browsing YoJoe.com and taking a good look at the 1982 Sears exclusive Missile Command Center. Though I've never wanted a cardboard playset, I really liked the arwork and concept that set represented. Though not intended to be an exact replica, I pulled a lot of details for my set from the original artwork.

After building this set, I saw J_Man's fantastic work to make a more solid version of this set. I guess the Missile Command Headquarters is finally getting its due.
