The TGA-7 (or Tyazhelyh Gusenichayh Artilleriiskih, meaning "Heavy Tracked Artillery") entered into service in 1982, whereupon its unusual appearance quickly earned it the nickname "Ulitka" or "Snail." It looked awkward and slow, but was, to the surprise of many, quite fleet and agile. The chassis was designed with a deceptively low center of gravity, which helped keep the Ulitka upright, even as it traversed uneven terrain at 25-35mph. So effective was the design, in fact, that Cobra later integrated it into its roster, utilizing it as the rear component of its MAGGOT. Though it originally featured a 185mm main gun, it was upgraded in 1984 with the 203mm "Strelnitz" gun, capable of firing the new RAP (Rocket Assisted Projectile) 203, or RS203, which significantly improved its already impressive performance.
