The VTL-42 "Sky Wolf" is a short-to-medium range low-level attack craft capable of engaging both air and ground targets. It takes much of its inspiration from the "Sky Hawk", though it shares little in common with the craft except its engines, which have been upgraded to the latest version of the Pratt & Whitney SK34 Series 7 engines (capable of 11,000 lbf thrust each). The Sky Wolf is also fitted with two SK22 Series "Pusher" engines with thrust vectoring to provide primary lateral steering. The larger engines are on a computer-controlled alignment system providing the longitudinal steering and also allowing the thrust to be directed downward to provide vertical take-off and hover capabilities. The vestigial fins on the side provide stabilization at high speed as well as providing a hard point for additional weapon systems and fuel tanks. The Sky Wolf is capable of a top speed of Mach 1.8 and has an effective range of 160 miles.

The Sky Wolf is equipped with a pair of 30mm Vulcan Cannons with 600 rounds each. The underbelly of the craft hosts the unique MGWS (Multiple Guided Weapon System). The MGWS can be equipped with up to 8 missiles (in both air-to-surface and air-to-air configurations), which are mounted onto a pair of carousels internal to the Sky Hawk. The pilot can select and arm any of the missiles from the cockpit, which are then aligned by the carousel into one of the four launching tubes.

Though small, the Sky Wolf employs a highly advanced electronics array. Along with the engine management and control system, there are onboard weapons guidance systems, target acquisition, threat assessment and warning systems, and state-of-the-art ECM (Electronic Counter Measures) systems.

(Originally I intended to make a new version of the Sky Hawk, however when I added the underbelly guns it reminded me of the launch tubes from Airwolf. So that is where the "Sky Wolf" name came from.)
