Johnny WhisperingCoyote grew up on the Papago Reservation in South Arizona. His life in the tribe was taking him nowhere when he decided to join the Marines and go to Vietnam. Once in country he soon found himself the squads medic after a brutal ambush by charlie. With his tracking and hunting skills he lead the survivors of his squad through the dense jungle back to base camp. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for is unselfish act of heroism in battle. Half way through his tour he was promoted to Sergeant and finished is tour without fail. When he rotated back to the real world he saw the America he was fighting to protect. Upon stepping off the plane, expecting a hero's welcome, he found a group of protestors who spat in his face. WhisperingCoyote made his way back to the reservation and found he wasn't welcome there either. So with the money he saved, he bought a bike and took off across country. While in New York, he crossed paths with a bouncer of a club and they quickly became friends. Offering Johnny a job, Brutus (better known as "the Butcher") helped him get on his feet. The two were good at what they did. Johnny tracked and Brutus collected. When WarHorse offered Brutus a job, The Butcher only took it if he could bring his pal along. Being the only Native American on the team, WhisperingCoyote decided on the name Medicine Man, to remind him of his time spent in Nam and the thanks he got for it.
