Sneak Peek

Sneak-Peek is a classic case of the "cool specialty/crappy figure" phenomenon. I made a custom of him a few years ago (he's on the site), but I wasn't all that happy with it, and when I noticed that Sneak-Peek was one of the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. options, I had an idea of how to remake him again.

I envisioned Sneak-Peek as the filecard described him: crawling into enemy territory, digging in under cover, and trying not to let his presence be known. It's a pretty risky specialty, and it would take a tough soldier to go through with it. So, I tried to toughen Sneak-Peek up a little.

I based the uniform design on various pictures I had seen of Vietnam-era recon troopers. I pieced the webgear on the chest together from pieces of Elite Force and JvsC belts. I also wanted him to have a flashlight for night operations, but I didn't want to use the Outback thigh (anyone who's seen a few of my customs knows I love that part, and I've used it a few too many times already), so I hollowed out a space on the thigh and used a Tunnel-Rat flashlight. I also had to sand down the insides of the arms near the shoulder to allow them to rest more naturally at his sides (those Duke arms stick way out if you don't alter them).

For the head, I wanted to move away (far, far away) from the old Sneak-Peek head. No offense to Stephen King's son, but the face they gave the figure just wasn't very imposing. Grand Slam beat me to the punch by sanding the mustache off a Footloose head a while back, but I had one sitting around, and it was exactly what I was looking for.

I based the camo pattern on Vietnam-era tiger-stripe camo, using Livevil's excellent Navy SEAL custom as a reference. It took a very long time, but I like how it turned out.

For the rifle, I wanted to give him something with a scope, since he would probably be forced to do some sniping sooner or later. I had cut the scope off a Frostbite rifle several years ago, and miraculously, it was still sitting at the bottom of a box of parts. So, I cut a notch into the bottom of it about the size of the Hit & Run rifle's handle, with the intention of gluing it on. But, when I tried it out, it fit so snugly that it works as a removable scope! I love happy accidents.

Throw in one of my favorite backpacks in the line, with an antenna made from the strap from a Big Bear rifle, and Sneak-Peek was ready for action.
