C.O.R.P.S.E. Chief Scientist
Name: Edward Pretorius
Birthdate: October 24, 1956
Birthplace: Providence, RI

Edward Pretorius was a scientist whose field of study revolved around microwave transmissions and wave fields. He developed a device, the Resonator, which stimulates the pineal gland in the human brain and allows the person to see and interact with layers of reality outside the range of normal human perception. Pretorius quickly discovered that these other dimensions were inhabited by a wide variety of creatures, most of which were extremely hostile to foreign life-forms. His desire to further his research over-rode his moral objections, and he began experimenting in increasingly dangerous and destructive ways in an effort to gain a greater understanding of his discovery. Pretorius's experiments eventually required living human subjects, and rather than risk exposing his experiments by kidnapping innocent people, he turned his attention to exploring the idea of re-animating the recently deceased. These experiments quickly became dangerous, as well: he succeeded in finding a formula that could re-animate the dead, but the result was a mindless, violent creature that could not be reasoned with or controlled. One particularly disastrous experiment resulted in a re-animated corpse escaping from Pretorius's laboratory and killing several people. He was arrested once the connection was discovered and sentenced to life in prison. His work came to the attention of Dr. Mindbender, who saw both an opportunity to use the Resonator to explore the other dimensions that Pretorius had discovered, as well as a kindred spirit in Pretorius himself. Mindbender arranged a prison break and offered Pretorius a chance to resume his experiments under the auspices of Cobra's C.O.R.P.S.E. project.

Pretorius is a brilliant scientist and inventor, and has no moral compunctions about conducting his experiments regardless of the risk they present to the safety of others. His experience with the Resonator and with his re-animation serum make him an invaluable resource to C.O.R.P.S.E.

This guy was another easy one. I had wanted to do a mad-scientist-type figure for a while, and once this GP was announced, the idea to make a figure based on Dr. Pretorius from the movie version of From Beyond (my favorite Stuart Gordon movie and one of my favorite Lovecraft film adaptations) came very quickly. I've been looking for an excuse to use that Palpatine head for a non-combat villain for a while, too; serendipity.
