Tunnel Rat was instructed to put on a really bad Toxo Viper disguise and infiltrate the Cobra Manhattan Headquarters to test the new Spy Troops technology. The disguise was unable to fool even the Toxo Zombies patrolling the sewers below the building, and Tunnel Rat kept in a constant state of horific torture by the Zombies for almost 7 weeks.

Breaking free by chewing his way out of his sewage soaked bonds, Tunnel Rat returned to GI Joe headquarters to find out that he had been disavowed, and was handed a "Reduction In Force" slip. He was out of a job. No one would even speak to him, as they were under the assumption that he had been broken, and had spilled secret information to cobra.

Already blacklisted from most public sanitation departments because he insisted on bringing a .45 pistol and grenades with him on the job, (to deal with rats) he was unemployable, betrayed, stinking and psychologically deranged after 7 weeks of torture.

After stealing Budo's motorcycle, Tunnel Rat found the only biker bar in Miami that would serve a deranged man that smelled strongly of sewage: The Dreadnok Cafe. He was approached by Road Pig, who commented that he wanted Tunnel Rat to join his gang, "So that at least someone would smell worse than I do." Tunnel Rat accepted, and now rides with them.
