I really would like Munitia, but I cannot see myself laying down that sort of capital with all of my 25th wants happening right now.

Wow. That's... out of my price range - even if I were interested in new sculpt rarities, which, sadly I am not.

I would advise the 4 or 5 people out there who really want these figures to wait until the price comes down. Unless these are released in quantities of less than 500, they aren't going anywhere at these prices.

Which is a shame, because it's going to sour the club on making un-produced stuff in the future, like the '95 figures or the Ninja Commandos.

The editions will be limited to 2000 pieces.

Those prices are too much for me right now. Especially considering that I can get TWO 25th anniversary vehicle 2-packs for the approximate price of one 2 figure pack there.

Am sure glad that I picked up my Munitia prototype when I did. I MIGHT get the Night Viper set but that is really iffy at this point.

I had a bunch of things to say, but I realize I'll end up offending somebody no matter what -- because there are people actually willing to buy this "LASER BLAST" - and in multiples, no less.

So I'll just keep my comments to the following:

Just about every other exclusive they have had has been clearanced out later. These won't be any different. I like the Outback character a lot. Packing him with the Night Viper is even better. But I think I'll wait a year and get them when they are $10 instead of slapping myself later for paying full price now.

Thirty dollars for two new-sculpt figures? Eleven dollar shipping?

...so, do you think GIJCC guys spend their *entire* day huffing paint thinner, or do you think they take the occasional break to just hit each other in the head repeatedly with a bat?

Hrm. I can't see Master Collector winning on this one, no matter what they do.

First they announced that they were doing it. Once that's done, they probably lose if they make the figures (financially, see below), or they definitely lose if they back out for some reason (taking a hit to their credibility and goodwill). Master Collector already lost a hit to their credibility with the Mauler fiasco, and to a lesser extent with their other misadventures (fifth MOTH set, etc).

While $20 a pop is not an unreasonable sum per carded figure on the secondary market (how many of us wouldn't easily pay that price for a nice carded vintage Joe?), Master Collector will be putting their DTC figures up against a popular Anniversary line on the retail shelves where the dollars go a lot farther. While I do not in any way begrudge MC for charging a premium for their figures (they need to make money to stay in business), I just don't see the market demand meeting that price. How big were the MOTH set runs? Independent of MC's decree, I have to postulate that many of us regard those Cobras as army builders... and yet the MOTH sales do not seem to have been strong enough to go forward with the fifth MOTH set.

I may be wrong about my market guess, and I will be happy to hear their success if MC does well with this DTC venture, but I'm not optimistic about their chances.

I doubt it. Basically, at $20 per figure after shipping, these are the price of 3 anniversary figures. I can guarantee that any collector fairly new to Joe will gladly buy 3 figs at retail over 1 of these. That's just reality.

MC is going to take a bath on these. Honestly, I doubt MC will clearance them...at least for a while. Better to buy them at the con next year to save shipping. However, I can bet that a lot of speculators will try to buy these and resell. Those are the ones to hit as any auction with a low starting price will likely end well below the original cost of these figures.

I said it when MC announced these: these figures were better left on history's scrap heap. At $8 each they still don't measure up to the anniversary figures. At $20 each, they are laughable failures that will likely cost us either higher prices on Con items next year or fewer Con items in total since MC will have too much capital tied up in unmoving sets of these figs.
