Didn't the original come with a small amount of plastic? Just some seats and a small console? I circled that thing vigorously in the Sears catalog back in the day. My family was unimpressed.

I think if there was any plastic, it was probably just the connectors or moving parts. I *think* the seats and console were also cardboard.

I also circled that thing vigorously. :tictoc:

ive wanted this thing for a long long time. when i first saw it announced yesterday i was very excited, when i saw it was$50 i was still very excited. THEN i found out it comes with 3 figures so thats just icing to me. im surprised how many people only seem to be interested in the figures, yet at the same time they are all disappointed with the figures and complaining about them. like i said im just happy to be able to get the play set assuming i can get the thing without a huge markup. but i guess all the people not liking the figure or only wanting the figures is putting my chances of getting one more at ease.

link to the j-man one if available? my castle base's escape pod is looking more like an icbm than escape pod and I could use some interior detail (control room type) bits.

The only plastic the original had was the screws and bolts to attach the elevator and rocket... which actually is nylon material. Everything else for it was cardboard. I've spoken several times with Kirk Bozigian about it. With the budget they had, this was just a little something extra for the figure 3 pack. The original idea was just getting the figures in the catalog and to make it more of an offer without skyrocketing costs, the idea of a cardboard playset was created. Ron Rudat was the artist for the design. That's what I try and carry over with the plastic version is to create something more from what it was while keeping the over all design and trying to do it justice with a few improvements.

This new version is fun. I never really expected them to ever revisit it. I'm going to grab one to display with my plastic one. I'm flattered that people still want the version I do even now with this one coming. I'll keep making them as long as people want them, but I wouldn't suggest anyone to pass up the chance to get this new one too. Even if just for the figures for a fun set to keep displayed with either base.

Thank you. I like to think it's a tribute back to fellow fans who enjoy all this as much as I do. I always try my best!
