Why didn't they just give the Retro line the spidey line articulation?

That would have defeated the purpose.

I...suppose. I have seen a minority of people staunchly in support of 5 POA. I suppose it's a matter of how slavishly Hasbro wanted to adhere to the past toy line. You *can* make visually similar retro figures with modern articulation as evidenced by these Spidey figs (minus the ball jointed neck assuming the spidey figs have that feature).

Take this Thor figure as an example. At a glance i see a t-crotch figure with a few extra points of articulation that my original Secret Wars figures didn't have as a child (wrist/forearm swivel). Add some knees and elbows and we're nearly on par with these new Epic figures.

Visually i prefer the look of the Retro figures (i like the look a lot actually). I just couldn't stomach 5 POA. It seems we could have had the best of both worlds without alienating the majority of the Retro fans.

Meh.

I don't follow Marvel closely enough.

Maybe they had other product that filled that niche.

Hopefully the new Spidey line will produce a Retro styled US Agent with the level of articulation the epic line has.

I've spotted these figures at a couple Targets now, thanks to this thread.
Without reading here, I wouldn't have given them a second look because of the packaging.

Haven't gotten any yet, since I already have a couple Spider-man figs. But the line is on my radar and I will be buying a couple when I see some I want. :)

By a stroke of luck i was able to buy Venom from this line for $3.82 after tax. The original price was $9.85 with tax.

I'd have been happy with it being $9 to $10 but $3.82 brought me back to childhood :D

I'm not sure if i'm going to use it as a base body for another character or keep Venom as is yet. Either way..... it's a *solid* fun toy for the price.

Rather than comparing it to more expensive figures i'm comparing it to a Final Faction $1.25 Brute or Diabol figures i own. From a value perspective i have no regrets. Venom is chunky and hits the sweet spot between "discount toy" and "over priced adult collectible" which a toy aimed at kids should.

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the Epic line.

I just wish they would do a Venom figure based on his early appearances. I'm sick of seeing the long tongue. At least the retro version is close to that look, even though it has the limited articulation.

I just took a look at the Retro Venom and this Epic Heroes version is damn close visually. If the Epic Venom shared the same head it would be a visually perfect hybrid between a 5 POA 80's aesthetic and a modern figure.

Found the Epic Spidey today. I really like the bright cartoon colors.
The way the body is sculpted, the legs don't go up to a full 90 degree angle when you try to either sit the figure down or try some dynamic web slinging poses.
Same with the knee joint that doesn't bent to a full 90 degree either, but it's a nice figure nontheless.

Playing around with it, it reminds my of the 2012 Spider-Man 4" line which is good since I like that line as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy Epic Heroes have shown up in stores.
As someone that has near zero interest in GoTG ....Star Lord and Drax look like nice army builder bodies.

Booo Rocket comes with an overpriced vehicle

I wonder what the other 2 blanks on the checklist are then
hoping Gamora & Nebula
but also wouldn't mind an Adam Warlock

Nebula does make sense since shes on the package and it would be an easy head and arm swap (I assume her bionic arm is visible in the uniform?)

And they'd have to do a villain...so Adam Warlock or maybe a fun monster/alien.

A loose group shot of the currently releasing "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3" Epic Series 4" figures has popped up.

Sadly, it looks like the majority of that ship is hollow on the reverse, which kills all of my enthusiasm for it.

Also, Groot kind of looks like a dried up cat turd with eyes...

Dammit, I'm in. Some solid fodder there.

It's marvelous.

The pendulum seems to be swinging back towards this type of product.

Hulk pictures courtesy of ... Fred Meyer of The Fighting 1:18th ( EDIT: Apparently it's Fred Meyer of Joebattlelines! Thanks for the correction).

I wouldn't mind owning a Hulk figure but the prices seem to be creeping on this line already ...
