Gimme some book lists. I'll start with my list and brief descriptions. Bonus points for Amazon links.

James Rollins' Sigma Force Series: This is where I base my Adventure Team stuff. The ongoing story of Painter Crowe, Grayson Pierce, and the ever expanding Sigma Force. Operating from the underground vault below The Smithsonian Castle in Washington DC, they race around the world uncovering mysteries and solving centuries old riddles. All while facing off against evil forces intent on using the discoveries for their own nefarious deeds. Adventure and mystery mixed with real world locations, weapons, and technology. Great afterwords by the author on all of his research to write the novels. 15 books deep in the series now.

Surprise, Kill, Vanish I just finished this one last week. A recently published account detailing America's special forces and their secret missions, starting with the OSS and Jedburghs in WWII and continues through recent operations in the Middle East. Great detail on Billy Waugh and SOG in Vietnam. Probably the best real world GI Joe stuff I've ever read. I would be interested to get Larry Hama's view on the book in relation to GI Joe lore.

Marine Sniper The true story of Carlos Hathcock, one of the first "snipers." It details his operations through Vietnam. He shot an enemy through the scope. They based that one scene in Sniper from the story in the book. Lots of great detail of camp life. Silent Warrior is the follow up by the same author with more of his stories.

Born on the 5th of July The autobiography of evangelist Tim Lee. The first half is his story of his time in Vietnam until he lost his legs to a mine. The second half is his recovery and how it lead him to his current place in life.

A spin-off of the Mack Bolan book series was a series called Phoenix Force. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_Force_(novel)

Also Able Team was another spin-off -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Able_Team

Yes, any Executioner, Super Bolan, Able Team, Phoenix Force, and Stony Man.

Also the S.O.B.s...

Not about special toy/comic teams but I like reading about the realistic stuff, no fiction:

Inside Delta Force - Eric Haney

Bravo Two Zero - Andy McNab

Seven Troop - Andy McNab

SEAL Team Six - Howard Wasdin

Untold stories from the Band of Brothers - Marcus Brotherton

Beyond Band of Brothers: The war memoirs of major Dick Winters

American Sniper - Chris Kyle

The tunnels of Cu Chi - Tom Mangold

Currently reading that last one. I like the fact that it tells the story from both sides, how the US tunnel rats and the NVA experienced the Vietnam war with the focus on the underground battlefields.

The Find Your Fate books. :D
http://www.3djoes.com/find-your-fate.html

Clear and Present Danger - Tom Clancy
Yeah yeah, it was a movie, but the book focuses a lot more on the insertion team too which ends up being a precurser to the Rainbow Six series.

Delta Force by Chargin' Charlie Beckwith
Beckwith essentially rewrote the book on Special Forces training during Vietnam and pushed for a Counter-Terrorism force like the British SAS units he had worked with.

Just finished SOG: The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam.

First rate reading for any GI Joe fan. These guys were GI Joe.

-Small elite force comprised of specialists, check.
-Working under the guise of non-lethal combatants, check.
-Complete deniability by the government, check.
-Codenames, check.
-Absolute Bad@$$es, Check and Double Check.

I actually bought this because of your review here. Finished it last week and I was not disappointed at all, what a fantastic read! Highly recommended.
Very impressive, also pretty tragical at some passages when they had to leave men behind, MIA's and POW's.

What I'm reading now: Fighting for the French Foreign Legion: Memoirs of a Scottish Legionnaire
https://www.amazon.nl/Fighting-French-F ... B0055T2KYK

Gotta know more about the Crimson Twins' background!
Seriously, it's worth the time reading for sure.

Gonna get back to this stuff after spending the last few months reading about The Allman Brothers, Levon Helm, electric guitars, and American innovation.

How did I miss this list? These are going on my 2021 reading list, except American Sniper. I've already read that one and didn't much care for it. It told some good stories but too much bravado in some of the personal stuff. And then the whole unnamed Jesse Ventura mess that came about soured me on the narrative.

That Inside Delta Force looks promising and I'll probably grab that after I read the recommended book by Pluv.

Just ordered Delta Force as a Treat Yo'self with an Amazon gift card I got for Christmas. Also ordered Big Fish too but that's not in the same vein of reading.

Well with the announcement of the RPG I thought this might be worth bringing back to the forefront. People may want ideas for campaigns.

Tales from the Cobra Wars - Well the Find Your Fate books were mentioned so we might as well bring this one up. The stories are set in the IDW shared-verse and so you get some one & done characters but the are pretty good.

Twilight X - An ameri-manga that, while in a post-apocalyptic setting, follows at least one soldier (eventually 3 and some survivors).
