I've picked up so many tips from looking at the way other people work or have their gear setup. So many people have the Ikea shelves or their computer work station for their displays because they saw other people do it first. I'm always personally jealous when I see people with neatly organized paint racks. I'm not that guy..and this evening when I get around to taking a pic of mine you'll see why. But for now, hopefully your set up, can and will inspire other people adopt some of your habits. So go ahead and post pics of your work space.

I did major overhaul of my workspace in late 2015 and it really has not changed much since except for different fodder cluttering the tables, so I'll re-post my pics from last year.

The first couple of pics are a quick overview. I designed my space to have different work stations. On the left, my computer. In the middle (where the first cutting mat and lamp are) is my painting area. Finally, on the right is where I can mess with fodder, assemble/disassemble figures, trim joints, dremel and generally make a mess.

Image

On the left of the computer are my fodder drawers. In those, I have fodder figures, vehicle and dio parts and any found items that I keep around. On the far left, is one of my Transformers displays. The shelves above the computer have all my ME New Sculpt customs and POC and more modern figures.

Image

Third and fourth pics are close-ups of my building station. The shelves above have a variety of (mostly) customs.

A close-up of the painting station. Under the desk, I have weapons, accessories, MTF stuff sorted into tackle boxes. I use the wooden rack on the desk to hold current wips so I don't have to move them around all the time and also to pin reference material. On the right is my homemade stick stand. They are preschool blocks stacked upside down. With certain parts, it's easier to glue them to a stick to paint them (helmets, web gear, heads, etc). This stand allows me to just deposit the sticks for the parts to dry. I also use it to store my spare brushes. I can customize it according to projects - use 1 or 2 blocks at a time, change the shape or move it around at will.

This is slightly embarrassing, the mess I have going.

I'll explain the "why" later in the week in another post.
In the meantime, I'll try my best to describe the madness.

The table serves as the workbench, with the most common used paints in the spinner. The rest go into a wooden drawer to the left of the table.
The shelves above hold "ideas" or figures placed on the back burner, and wips. As well as unopened fodder and vehicles I keep meaning to get to someday. The table has little piles of parts (arms, legs, tech detail) that is waiting to be put away.

On top of the wooden drawers is more scrap, noting really to note. Just a mess. Sometimes I use it to place a figure to dry while I work on more.

I have plano nut and bolt buns on the ground, theyare heads, arms and legs. Torsos and other parts are separated on the workbench table in the utility drawer unit. The bins are usually stored on the bookcase, but I've been busy as of late.

The bookcase has my photo station, and more wips that have been set aside for later. The black shelf is just there. No rhyme or reason to it.

There's an old swivel kitchen chair for a seat, so I can spin around and move to whenever a part might be. I try to keep it in order, but the amount going on varies from time to time.. it's a couple hour process to stop and sort and clean when I decide to step back.

Clear bins hold smaller bits. Accessories, body parts, etc, organized by loose themes. Bald heads, armored legs, hands, and so on. Boxes down below hold full figures or larger accessories like vests or backpacks.

You guys are so fancy. A move and turning the offfice into a guest room later and this is what my work space is confined to, a shoebox sized plastic bin that can be moved anywhere I need to be.

Even the few big projects I'm working on are in bigger containers.

This is extremely clean compared to normal. This teacher's desk was left in the house by the previous owners because it was to heavy to move and I'll probably leave it too if we ever move. I covered it with a thins piece of sanded plywood when I moved in and painted it with that greenish gray paint I had laying around. The desk drawers on the left hold my paints and Dremel. I mounted a powerstrip on that side to plug my lamp, Dremel, and Shop Vac into and I use the switch on it to kill power to my whole workstation. The left drawers house random stuff I hardly ever use in the top drawer and the large file drawer has decal sheets and textures for photo backgrounds I swear I'm going to use one day. The middle drawer holds my brushes and clamps and screwdrivers along with screws and o-rings.

To the right is a six drawer Sterilite unit that houses my new sculpt parts. This is a pic of the top 3 drawers and the reason I still make new sculpt o ring customs. There is a matching one to the left with ARAH parts. Modern stuff is in those drawers on top of my desk along with the WIP drawer.
