Pull up a chair and I'll weave a tale so fierce it will set the hairs on the back your neck on fire. Picture it, summer of 1983. Every kid on the block had Joes and Return of the Jedi out the wazoo. We'd just come back from vacationing at my Uncle and Aunt's lake house and so my brother and I had access to toy stores my friends didn't. Everyone gushed over the VAMP. Apparently while we were gone there were Star Wars vs Joes backyard battles breaking out all over the neighborhood. My brother and I were about to sway the tide in the Joes favor. We played out a block wide battle for an entire weekend. It ended when a plan to Trojan Horse some troops inside the Jawa Sand Crawler's battery compartment was discovered. So many accessories were lost. No one cared. It took going to Joe Con as an adult to see that many people playing with toys at the same time for the same purpose.

So, what are your war stories? Any pics with your toys?

A glorious Easter morning in 1983 for my big brother and I. I doubt we always shared well, but we were expected to.

I don't have any pics unfortunately, and most of my Joe war stories were relegated to the confines of the toy room as I would never have taken my toys outside to play with them The fear of something getting lost or broken was paralyzing to me. Weirdly enough, I now take my toys outside all the time! The battles inside the home however, were glorious, and would often last days or even weeks.
When I played with my Joe's, it was me playing out a live action show in my own house. I even had an opening theme that I played through, singing the same song and playing the same characters through the same action sequence every time. I would use my best announcer voice for commercial breaks when I needed to take a break for a drink or grab a snack.
One such drawn out playtime story, was titled "the Rise and Fall of the Overlord", which showed the Overlord usurping Cobra Commanders control over Cobra and declaring war on the Joe's. The battles took place everywhere from the deep sea of my bedroom, to the arctic mountains of my living rooms couch cushions. The week long battle ended when nearly every Joe in my collection raided an ironing board turned Cobra Airship to actually free Cobra Commander, who ended up kicking the Overlord off the airship over the vast Pacific ocean, never to be seen again.

My brother an I both collected Joe, though we rarely played together, and over the years I was able to take over his entire collection through a series of trades and barters.

I was an only child ,but had some epic battles against my older cousin. legos and other blocks were just ammo to us :) more than one actual bb gun artillery barrage and a few close calls with pyro!

Some random memories of battles: Sorry, no pics.

A large full scale outside assault of the mobile command center occurred sometime around Xmas Break 1989. I only remember it well because my brand new Snake Eyes and Rock n Roll saved the day. Xmas in AZ was nice, 65 degrees for the high meant you could play outside all day long.

Sometime after Captain Power went off the air, I got the female figure for $1.00 on clearance at Lionel's. I remember a squad of Joes in the desert fox having to escort her out of an unfriendly country.

Sometime in the early 90's I reenacted the X-Men's "x-ecutioner's song" storyline with Duke being accused of trying to kill Hawk. The Joes went on the hunt for him, and several Joes aided aided Duke in running/hiding, most notably Mercer. which didn't help Duke's "Innocence" any. The hideout was my old, incomplete TMNT Sewer Playset. The real culprit was the new Battle Corps Crimson Guard figure, which resulted in a large battle, and Duke getting a new uniform (upgraded to Battle Corps Duke). This adventure took place over several days and I am pretty sure encompassed every Joe toy I owned.

Early on I took my Joes outside every day and would build forts and bunkers in the dirt. Some joes would get buried like the scene in "The Boy Who Could Fly". Later on when I got the 92 headquarters that became the focus of play because it was the only big playset I had. Usually Cobra would take the headquarters, and then GI Joe would have to retake it.

Then I became a fan of Star Trek the Next Generation. The Star Trek figures sucked and were expensive, so the joes went into space. A box that held a volleyball was used as the bridge because it had the curved cardboard.

Then Joes left the toy isle and Star Wars was re-released. I started collecting star wars figures, and the Iron Grenadier was used as the next Sith Lord to battle Luke.

After Star Wars wrestling got real popular because of the nWo and the monday night wars. Then every figure I owned GI Joe, Star Wars, ect. became a wrestler. They battled it out in the top of a Trivial Pursuit box, because I didn't have a wrestling ring.

Not the best pics, but it's all I have:

I was eight or nine years old here. One of the less complicated battles, both parties making a stand and fight!

I was ten in this pic. I did a lot of "figures only" battles too and this one took place on the couch. I got three or four Steel Brigade troopers at that time. Since I felt Cobra was lacking troopers (cannon fodder) I used them as Cobra robots.

Some styrofoam insert of a box was used as a Cobra base, rope probably used as barbed wire. You can see my "Cobra" Steel Brigade again, this time guarding the base.
