beginners level only, as I have a cheaper machine without the ability for high-res or ultra small scaled items.

But that being said, i'm pretty happy with what it can do well.

Oh, and those files were not made by me. Both from PrettySmallThings via Thingiverse

Those look a lot smoother than most of the 3d prints I've seen. What machine are you using and/or how are you smoothing out the ridges?

i'll take 2 :)

they look great to me. I think the rough finish translates well with the fabric.

Welcome to the club! Don't know which printer you have, but if you are willing to do some tweaking, you can get more ordinance or of pretty much any of them. As is, though, your prints look great.

If you want to dabble with some design without learning CAD, especially if you want more organic creations, look at Sculpio (PC) or Trusculpt (Android). They're like using modeling clay.

Again, really nice, especially if these are some of your first prints.

Those are very cool and I like the paint jobs. Congrats on the new machine.

These look smooth compared to other prints I've seen online. In case you want to remove the stringy look completely, you can sand a 3D print. You can start with course paper like 220 and work your way through different grits all the way to 2000.

Yep as 2DARK said I think the finish looks like fabric and gives the pieces character. You are on another level now man. Cant wait to see what you come up with.

The machine is a TIKO. Neither of these were printed at the finest resolution either, as I am simply getting my feet wet. And yeah, Mark, aside from the demo, these are my 1st and third things I've printed (a joker bust being the second which was too small to work well).

OB and Darko - I filed and sanded a bit on each. For the chair, the pattern of the print seemed to work pretty well for me. So I didn't mess with it much. For the couch, I really focused on smoothing out the cushions, so they could look leathery. I used a steel brush to beat up the surface and clean up rough edges than a rough grit file to try to smooth it further. I decided I'd let the layers on the frame be simply a part of how the couch was built. I agree that part didn't turn out quite as well.

I'm mostly trying to get techniques down right now. Mark - if you have any tweaks to recommend for the TIKO let me know. Right now I'm enjoying the simplicity of it. Point, click and print, so long as you have a file to work with.

But yes, I do want to get into some design. And if I take to it, I could see getting a higher quality machine at some point.

Oh, I also backed the polysmooth machine on KS, which is a system (if it works) that can replace or at least automate the acetone bath process for even smoother results.

Here's the chair straight off the print job

And here's the machine. Have to admit I kinda like just the idea of it being there in my set-up.

Actually, that printer can handle some really nice resolution without an tweaks. You can get a layer height of .05mm at the finest setting (this will be slow, but the results will be fantastic). You don't need to worry about doing any tweaking to it, just play around with various prints and software settings.

One thing you will find is that while a model might look great onscreen, it's not that good for printing, which can make the machine look like it's not doing a good job, when really, it was just a rough model.

yeah, I tried the bust at .05, and I wondered if maybe the problem wasn't the model itself

Bindy, those prints work perfectly w your customs. Any roughness that might show up adds realism. If you hadn't told us they were 3d printed, people would be asking where they could buy them.

Thanks Chad! I showed the painted chair to my wife and she was like 'what about it?' - she thought I had swiped it from her old dollhouse stash, and had no clue I was showing her something I had printed.
