Oh, man, I wanna build a workshop/HOA like yours, Spinny.

And thanks for reminding me that the JP Dino Hospital playset is nigh-impossible to find...

Thanks, MBB.

Up next is a make-good/do over on a character I just never gave his due.

My old Kingpin custom was intended to bring his Netflix look more into comic/cartoon/video game proportions, but the more I've looked at it the more I'm disappointed in not just the execution but the idea. After a couple years of staring, he looked more like fat Lex Luthor than the Kingpin to me. So I decided to go full-on comic tribute with the rebuild:

The light in the pictures isn't doing them justice, but there are a couple of different purples at play. Pants and tie are a flatter/richer purple while the vest is slightly metallic (because I imagined it would be made of a bullet proof material).

Here are some shots of him squaring off with his horny nemesis:

What do you guys think?

Thanks, guys.

He's definitely one of my bigger non-giant baddies now.

Here's a shot with some other custom heavyweights for a size comparison:

Hey all-

Been dealing with some health issues, so not as much time for customizing recently. But I had a good weekend and decided to knock out a project that's been on my to-do list for a while.

I enjoyed the relatively recent Rhino figure from the MU line, but like all of their bigger figures it felt a little squat and not quite large enough compared to their standard buck. Then I remembered the bulkier Rhino I'd picked up from the Spider Man line several years back but had tucked away because of the lack of leg articulation (he was constantly squatting as if preparing to charge).

Here's a comparison of the two side by side:

So I decided to try fixing the bigger Rhino's legs by swapping on the lowers from the MU offering. Here's how that turned out:

This required pretty extensive resculpting of the upper legs on the bigger figure, as slicing off the lowers at the knees required going in at a weird angle. But the resulting figure can still get down into that menacing charge pose he was molded for:

And now he stands more where I'd expect him to relative to Spidey and his other bad guys:

What do you think?

That older Rhino is such a great sculpt except those legs, this is the update it deserves.

That menacing charging pose completely sold me.

Well done and outstanding seem...inadequate words to use.

Rhino is not worthy of your update! You make him look like a legit threat!

Agreed. The only reason that figure doesn’t get more playtime is because the legs are so one dimensional. You saved not only the overall use of the figure but made him look a ton better in the process.

Thanks, guys. I'm pretty pleased.

I did have to salvage the feet from those non-articulated legs as well (the MU Rhino's feet were ludicrously tiny on this body) but now he's got a ton of range of motion.

Hey again, all.

My recent surgical leave gave me more time for customizing than I've had in a while, so I decided to tick a couple of low hanging branches off of my wishing tree and try to scratch -build a reasonably proportioned Baby Groot:

I'll show a WIP photo in a bit, but this guy is about 85% green stuff sculpted onto a makeshift skeleton of various accessory scraps and on the cheeks of a head from one of those Marvel Microverse Groot figures that clogged the shelves back when GotG came out.

Here's a shot showing his relative size to my custom Rocket:

And another showing how he stacks up to a full-(human)-sized figure:

What do you guys think?

Just for reference, here's the WIP I shot before finishing his face and painting him up:

And here's a shot of something else I threw together using that leftover body from the Miniverse Groot figure and the head from an ornament:
Attachment:
PreTeenGroot.jpg
PreTeenGroot.jpg [ 97.25 KiB | Viewed 991 times ]

I know he's not quite as tall as he is in Infinity War (more like Tween Groot than Teen Groot), but here's a comparison shot of him and the crew he ran with in that movie:

I don't like to waste leftovers.
