Thanks for the kind words.

Shifting gears a little, my son has been riding me since I finished my first Groot custom that the size wasn't right. I knew that, but it was as close as I thought I could get until I found a second comic pack Groot for cheap. Inspiration struck during our Guardians weekend movie marathon when I remembered that someone had bought the boy an Action Battlers Groot once upon a birthday. We dug that up, started chopping away at the comic Groot and - after some Green Stuffing and brown paint - here's where we landed:

The paint's still a little spotty. Waiting for the base coat to completely cure befoe filling in some of the missed patches and adding some green wash , but as of now he's good enough for size comparisons. Here he is with the rest of the GOTG crew:

And here he is with my previous Groot custom, which I think I'm going to keep on hand to cover his size changing abilities:

What do you guys think?

Thanks, guys.

This was a ton of work, as the below WIP pix may indicate:

My camera isn't showing it very well, but a lot of pre-Green Stuff application sculpting was required to give the upper arms an appropriately barky texture and I had to shave down the front of the torso, which I then scored with a blade to texture.

I'm pretty happy with how he came out.

Rounding out my Guardians customs is a character I had no idea how to approach until my daughter sat and sorted through my spare parts.

I love Nebula's look in the Guardians movies and particularly after she visited the Ravagers' tailor. My daughter keenly observed that my midnight Chinese Crimson Baroness body might make a good base. Just needed to perform some surgery on the left arm:

For the head we ripped the hair off several different MU figures before arriving at the Sue Storm from the FF box set. Her head was the only one with realistic proportions sans hair. The groove in the back of it also provided a good place to secure the green stuff that I ultimately sculpted into her skull cap and left himsphere optical enhancements:

Here's a shot of her engaging in some unhealthy sibling rivalry with my Gamora custom:

What do you guys think?

Her head is such a pain. so much detail and all of the colors. You did a superb job with it and your daughter's call on the base body is an excellent choice.

Yeah, I may well have to steal the ever-lovin' crap out of that recipe.

Steal away. That's a trimmed down Bilbo Baggins coat on her, btw.

I got mine a couple years ago from an eBay seller in China. It was an imperfect (presumably production flaw) copy of the JoeCon exclusive that came with its Crimson Strike set (2015 I think?).

Can't believe we're creeping up on Halloween already. Time flies.

In the spirit of the season, I decided to revisit my existing Blade custom, which suffered from some proportion issues when I lined him up next to other characters in my MU collection. To address those I stole some lengthened lower legs from a Rage figure (I honestly had no idea who that character was anyway) and, while I was tweaking, decided to try and find a better head for the Daywalker:

Then, as I was looking at the wreckage of the Rage figure, I realized I had some appropriately muscular-looking arms in the right skin tone to give Blade an alternate (equally iconic) movie look:

The arms are pretty easily interchangeable (just twist/pop and swap).

What do you guys think? Better?

Nice. I'm all for Ultimate versions of characters and this is perfect.
